  • What is Open Money?

Open money is a platform, a commons. Open money is a cultural, social and political context, inherent in the commons of free speech, that universally enables the declaration of currencies of community, by community and for community. Community currencies are, always and only, accounting between users. They are matters of measure, not assets in themselves. The diagram shows the innovative funding cycle, Community Way, which is used to kick-start open money development.
  • How does it work?

You move community currency using open money accounts which are available on-line, by web and by phone app. One can only spend and earn with others using that same currency or whatever is declared. There will generally be neither charges nor interest. And any money spent stays within that system of users - and it is always around to be earned. Within open money there is no shortage of money... This diagram shows trading accounts grouped in spaces of place or interest, and accounts grouped by their interactions. There are communities of identity and communities of transaction.

Open money supports systems that are means of exchange, currencies that are measures and metrics of value, not stores of it. Read More
